Jacob served as an Intel analyst with Special Operations Command in the Australian Army before transitioning to Victoria Police, where he worked with Open-Source Investigations training and later with the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team in Melbourne. His work relied heavily on open-source intelligence to locate and identify both victims and offenders.
